How We Research

Clean Comparisons is a skincare research-and-recommendations site. We do not run clinical trials, diagnose skin conditions, or promise medical results. We synthesize ingredient lists, dermatologist guidance, and verified-buyer feedback into practical buying shortlists.

What we are — and what we are not

We are an editorial comparison site for over-the-counter beauty and skincare products. We are not a dermatology clinic, clinical lab, or medical publisher. Product pages are shopping research, not medical advice.

Our four-stage process

  1. Read the full ingredient list. We look at active ingredients, supporting ingredients, fragrance, texture, and likely routine fit.
  2. Cross-reference credible guidance. We use dermatologist-published guidance, the American Academy of Dermatology, cosmetic-chemistry explainers, ingredient references, and brand disclosures.
  3. Read owner feedback. We weigh verified-buyer reports about irritation, pilling, scent, texture, and repeat purchase behavior.
  4. Monitor price and availability. Amazon pricing changes often, so Phase 5 automation keeps prices fresh and Phase 6 makes catalog expansion repeatable.

Reference categories we cross-check

  • Dermatologist guidance from the American Academy of Dermatology and other clinician-reviewed education pages.
  • Regulatory framing from FDA cosmetics safety and labeling information.
  • Condition-aware skincare guidance from organizations such as the National Eczema Association where relevant.
  • Brand and retailer disclosures for current ingredients, pricing, availability, and product positioning.

Safety boundaries

  • Patch test new products.
  • Introduce actives slowly, especially retinoids and exfoliating acids.
  • Stop use if burning, swelling, rash, or persistent irritation occurs.
  • Consult a dermatologist for acne, eczema, rosacea, melasma, pregnancy-safe routines, prescription products, or any persistent skin concern.
